Papier-mâché is the art of creating three-dimensional objects from paper pulp. Papier-mâché also refers to the material itself that is used for construction of papier-mâché objects.

The art of papier-mâché is believed to have been invented by a Kashmiri prince in Persia. Papier-mâché has been popular in Kashmir and Persia, as well as in other Asian countries such as Japan and China. It is supposed to have been introduced in England in the 1700s, and also in vogue in Russia and North America in the 19th century.

Papier-mâché is commonly used to create decorative items and toys.
