Between Gokarna and Karwar, Ankola is a typical costal town situated in Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka. The main language spoken here is Kannada, and a dialect of Konkani that is unique to Uttara Kannada. Ankola is famous for its native breed of mango called ishaad. Ankola has a great array of temples which form the part of cultural and social activities of Ankola. The town is located on the Arabian Sea coast in the District of Uttara Kannad. Carving in sandalwood is a speciality. Just to the north of town, the Aghanashini River joins the Arabian Sea on her way rendering stunning scenery. A nearby spot called Yana is also beautiful with its massive black rock formations and nature trails. It also offers a lot of opportunity in terms of water sports which includes Snorkelling, Sea Kayaking and many more.

Yana is a quiet hill station among the evergreen forest of Sahyadri mountains. Beautiful peak of Mohini Shikhara is ninety meters from base. These looming peaks are spectacular structures that have attained dimensions roughened through weathering turning into a photographer's delight.
